Jailbreak Van Dammit

Tonight's beer:

Jailbreak Van Dammit

Opens with some thick layers of dark dried/candied fruit (cherries, figs, plums, dates), baking spice (mainly allspice and cloves), bread (with toast around the edges), caramel and molasses and honey. Earthy-peaty bitterness appears around the finish, along with hints of smoke and ash and tobacco, off in the distance, as the beer veers sharply toward dry. Dim impressions of rum and brandy.

On the light side of medium-bodied, very well-carbonated. Eventually drying and refreshing and cleansing. Very little indication of the 9% ABV. Maybe a trace of lingering stickiness.

A delicious version of a usually delicious style, from a brewery I can practically walk to (yay!). Complex as hell and astonishingly intense, balanced and beautifully well-integrated and devastatingly drinkable. I gather (or think I remember) this won a Major Award (maybe the glow of electric sex in the window) and I can see how and why. Yum!
