Tonight's beer:
Caramelly-bready sweetness opposed by grassy-floral bitterness. Layers and threads of toast and toffee, dried fruits (figs, dates, cherries, plums), nuts, earthy-peaty bitterness. Hints of baking spice and vanilla around the edges. Thin wisps of molasses. Wraps up gradually dry.
Thick and bready-chewy, softly sticky; well-carbonated. No real hint of the 9.6% ABV. Gently drying, kinda scrubbing. Surprisingly like refreshing for a biggish barleywine-ish beer.
The extra time in the bottle has done nice things with this beer, to be certain. Intense and complex for days, smoothly and gracefully balanced and integrated; supple. Remarkably drinkable. One of the beers I like to keep around, and one that ages beautifully.
