Tonight's beer:
Pumpkins, maple, molasses, vanilla; big wads of baking spices—cloves and nutmeg, hints of cinnamon and ginger—dropped in. Dark roasty-toasty notes fill in quickly: unsweetened chocolate, coffee, dark bread, toffee. Earth and peat in the background, maybe a touch of ash and smoke. Doesn't make it to dry by the finish, but it gets close.
Thick and bready-chewy, well-carbonated; sheets of syrupy stickiness. Some roasty-dry through the middle. Slow an lingering finish. Basically no warning of the 10% ABV. Surprisingly smooth.
Egad. As I saw someone pt it recently, this would have been an awesome stout without the pumpkin and spice; the pumpkins and spice are integrated nicely into that. The end result is amazing. Intense and complex as hell, pretty well-balanced for a big stout (with pumpkin and spice). Distressingly drinkable. I am given to understand there are people (poor, benighted souls!) who can't stand Pumking; they probably won't like this, either—it's like Pumking blended with an imperial stout. If that's not you, find this beer. Thank me when you get the chance.
