Tonight's beer:
Opens quite roasty, with dark chocolate and espresso; dark bread, molasses and caramel, dried fruits (cherries, plums), toast emerge quickly. Earthy-peaty bitterness—maybe a sprinkling of grass—through the middle, then a soft touch of spice and vanilla into a slowly drying finish.
Maybe a little thicker than medium-bodied, decently carbonated. Some minor stickiness quickly resolves to roasty-drying, cleansing and scrubbing and surprisingly refreshing.
More roasty and less spicy than I remember previous versions of this beer being, but they do change it every year. Intense and complex, very well-balanced and superbly integrated. Immensely drinkable, less of a dessert beer than I was expecting. Seriously delicious.
