Tonight's beer:
Opens with a spatter o cherries, teetering between tart and sweet; honey arises right behind, with threads of baking spice—mostly cloves—woven in. Bread emerges for a moment around the middle, caramel and maybe toast around the edges. Grass and flowers, earth and beat in the distance, mainly into and through a slowly dry finish.
Pretty light-bodied for 11% ABV, decently carbonated. thin syrupy stickiness breaks down kinda quickly as the beer evolves to gently drying, almost cleansing refreshing. Minimal alcohol presence.
I'm well enough aware this beer isn't for everyone, but I'm damn sure it's for me—and that's what matter most, as far as why I buy this every year.
Intense as hell and nicely complex. Not really anything like balanced—it really is dominated by the cherries—but well-integrated and devastatingly drinkable. On a night when we needed a bit beer, this hit the spot dead center.
