Tonight's beer:
Opens solidly bitter: grassy up front, with threads of flowers, pine, and grapefruit pith. Bready sweetness emerges through the middle, layered with caramel and edged with toast. Evolves briskly to imposingly dry.
Medium-bodied, with a good amount of carbonation. Some syrupy-resinous stickiness lingers, evolves to gently drying; eventually becomes pretty-much refreshing. Gently cleansing.
A delicious beer, maybe a little atypical for a winter seasonal—though Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale is another, and is doubtless an inspiration to many. Nicely balanced and superbly well-integrated while being quite intense and impressively complex. Marvelously drinkable. I remember having this when I had more regular access to Northwest beers, and I'm happy to have it again.
