Wicked Weed Tyrant

Tonight's beer:

Wicked Weed Tyrant

Opens staggeringly bitter: loads of pity citrus—orange, lime, grapefruit—backed by lots of musky things like melons, tropical fruits, and flowers; softer threads of pine and grass. Thick bready sweetness arises through the middle, with grace notes of toast and caramel. Bitterness reasserts itself into a lingering, gradually dry finish.

A little thicker and denser than medium-bodied, well-carbonated. Bready-chewy, with massive resinous-syrupy stickiness holding on for a long while. By the end, massively scouring, tending toward dryng; eventually almost cleansing and surprisingly refreshing. Scarily little alcohol presence—practically zero.

Holy crap! I'd heard some impressive good things about Wicked Weed's beers, and this backs those up, and then some. Intense as hell and mind-blowingly complex. Balanced in the way amber/red IPA-ish beers can be, superbly well-integrated. Terrifyingly drinkable. Graceful and supple, with no warning at all of the 8.5% ABV. I definitely need to find more beers from these folks.
