Alesmith Wee Heavy

Tonight's beer:

Alesmith Wee Heavy
Lots of caramel, flecks of toast, on top of thick bread. Peat and smoke woven deeply in, alongside nits and toffee. Earthy-grassy bitterness creeps up along the edges. A surprising flash of dark chocolate on the finish as the beer shrugs eloquently at the thought of drying out, then decides that's not worth the bother.

Very thick and dense (not so much wee but definitely heavy), pretty well-carbonated. Massively chewy, distinctly smooth. Some sludgy, almost oily stickiness lingers, shifts a bit toward drying. Very little alcohol presence for 10% ABV—no heat or prickle or basically anything.

Wow. Sometimes I stumble upon Alesmith's beers, and I almost always buy them when I do. Beers like this are why. Intense as hell and amazingly complex; kind of a malt bomb, but that's appropriate for the style. Terrifyingly drinkable, supple and subtle and gloriously graceful. Awesome.
