Tonight's beer:

Atlas NSFW

Starts with a blast of bitterness: flowers and citrus and pine, threads of grass and earth. Chocolate, dark bread, toast in the background, with layers of espresso and molasses. Maybe a flicker of spice and burnt fruit. Finishes quickly and steeply dry.

A little thicker and heavier than medium-bodied, with a good amount of carbonation. Smooth and slippery, just a trace of bready chewiness. Lingering threads of resinous-syrupy stickiness gradually turns to drying and cleansing. Eventually refreshing. Remarkably little alcohol presence—llke, zero.

A brawny Black IPA, smooth and terrifyingly drinkable. Impressively intense and imposingly complex, balanced and well-integrated. Supple and poised and graceful. One of the advantages of being basically halfway between two major-ish cities is that I have access to two cities' worth of local breweries. That's a real thing. This beer is a big and glorious reminder of that good thing.
