Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale

Tonight's beer:

Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale

Starts out very bitter: pithy-grapefruity citrus, flowers, pine, and grass. Bready sweetness emerges through the middle, lightly toasted and edged with honey and caramel. Dries out quickly and completely into the finish, with some lingering bitterness.

Medium-bodied or thereabouts, with lots of carbonation. A bit of chewiness evolves to sheets of resinous-syrupy stickiness. Wraps up gradually drying and cleansing, eventually nicely refreshing.

One of the standard winter/Xmas IPAs, from way long ago. Intense and impressively complex, wonderfully well-integrated and (given the style) something a lot like balanced. Astonishingly drinkable. Definitely a beer to celebrate, and to celebrate with.
