Southern Tier 2X Oak'd IPA

Tonight's beer:

Southern Tier 2X Oak'd IPA

Very bitter up-front: mostly floral and grassy. Pine and citrus and threads of musk lurk behind, parallel to bread layered with caramel and maple. Toast, maybe, around the edges. Bitterness re-emerges through the long eventually-dry finish.

Just a touch thicker and heavier than medium-bodied, well-carbonated. Resinous-syrupy stickiness draped in layers through the middle; gradually evolves toward drying, cleansing and refreshing. Roughly zero alcohol presence.

A pretty nice variant of Southern Tier's more accessible Double IPA (Un*Earthly can be a good deal more intense). The maple and oak character is kinda subtle, but the overall balance is pretty well-centered, and everything is superbly integrated. Intense and reasonably complex, impressively drinkable. Supple and subtle and graceful.
