Tröegs Mad Elf

Tonight's beer:

Tröegs Mad Elf

Opens quite sweet—lots of cherries and a bit of honey, on top of bread and caramel and a touch of toast. Baking spice emerges around the middle, cloves backed by allspice (with traces of other spices lurking). Sidles in the direction of dry by the end, with lingering impressions of brandy and rum.

Something like medium-bodied, maybe a bit lighter; a lot of carbonation, scrubbing and eventually cleansing. Gradually drying and impressively refreshing. Scarily little booziness given the 11% ABV.

Yup. I know it's not to everyone's taste, but it's emphatically to mine. Intense as hell and seriously complex, kinda heavy on the cherries but holds together nicely. Graceful and supple and devstatingly drinkable. Always worth grabbing a six-pack when it's available.
