Hardywood Give Bock

Tonight's beer:

Hardywood Give Bock

Starts deeply bready-sweet, with thick layers of caramel and toast; lurking maple and molasses, strong presence of toffee and maybe nuts. Grassy-earthy bitterness flickers around the edges, possibly some peat. Slides smoothly and easily to dry through a casual and gradual finish.

A bit thicker than medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Some soft chewiness evolves to almost-pillowy stickiness. Gently drying, startlingly refreshing, impressively smooth.

A delicious bock, nicely true to the style. Quite intense for 6.5% ABV, and complex enough to put the lie to the idea that lager styles are always simplistic. Superbly well-integrated and impressively balanced. Poised and graceful and amazingly drinkable. Hardywood continue to make excellent stuff.
