No-Li Defacto

Tonight's beer:

No-Li Defacto

Opens brightly bitter—citrus (lemons and grapefruit and oranges), flowers, pine, grass—alongside dark roasts—coffee and dark chocolate. Molasses, dark bread, and toast in the background. Vanilla and flickers of peat and smoke around the edges. Lingering traces of maple into a slowly dry finish.

Pretty light-bodied for 9% ABV, soft and smooth and decently carbonated. Thin lingering syrupy/resinous stickiness, gradually edging toward clean, scrubbing, and refreshing. Very little alcohol presence—practically none, to my palate.

A very impressive beer, a kinda eccentric approach to making a Black IPA. Bracingly intense and staggeringly complex, surprisingly like unto balanced. Poised and graceful and deliriously drinkable. Supple and tough to pin down or pigeonhole. A beer that is definitely worth seeking out.
