Southern Tier Salted Caramel

Tonight's beer:

Southern Tier Salted Caramel

Starts almost overwhelmingly sweet: lots and lots of caramel, toast along the edges, dark chocolate in the structure, some bread and maple and molasses and vanilla alongside. Earthy bitterness subtle around the middle, hints of peat and maybe grass in the distance. Lingering sweetness lingers through a slow and long finish.

A bit thicker and heavier than medium-bodied, carbonation a little sparse but adequate. Thick sheety layers of syrupy stickiness drape the palate, last for what seem like eons. Long and shallow slide to gently dry by the finish. Slight tilt toward refreshing. Effectively no alcohol presence.

This is a delicious—albeit very, *very* sweet stout. Bit swathes of caramel, but impressively complex behind and below that. Stupidly intense. Graceful and supple and gloriously drinkable. I'll have to look for more of this, when it comes around again.
