Crooked Fence Hop Notion

Tonight's beer:

Crooked Fence Hop Notion

Opens starkly bitter: grass, flowers, grapefruit, lime, pine, and orange. Pale bready sweetness lurks in the background, mostly apparent around the middle, with dim hints of honey in the distance. Wraps up bitter again and very dry

Medium-bodied, with lots of carbonation. Scrubbing and drying, cleansing and scouring. Quickly refreshing.

A very nice American IPA, pretty much dead-on the West Coast/Northwest style—very bitter and very dry. Impressively intense and remarkably complex, given the moderate alcohol content (6% ABV); nicely-integrated, poised and graceful, willfully unbalanced. Startlingly drinkable. A beer picked almost at random to fill out our annual box of beer from the northwest—something I'm glad to have tried, to be sure.
