Tonight's beer:
Starts out with slabs of caramel-toasty sweetness covered with figs and sprays of citrus and heavily sprinkled with cloves and nutmeg and juniper. Earthy-grassy-peaty bitterness struggles forward through an almost grudgingly dry finish.
A bit thicker than medium-bodied, with carbonation on the sparse side of adequate. Gradually drying, sliding toward clean and cleansing and surprisingly like refreshing for such a big beer. Basically no boozy burn or prickle.
A delicious and festive beer, so rich with spice and dried fruits it almost comes across as mulled. Intense and complex, graceful and poised and well-integrated, drinkable as heck in a big spiced beer way. Clearly my seasons are getting out of sync, at least a little. Oh comma well.
