Tonight's beer:
Grassy-floral bitterness up front, wrapped in dark chocolate, strong coffee, caramel, and toast. Pine and pithy citrus—mostly grapefruit—liberally sprinkled in. Earth and peat and vanilla arise around the middle, lingering into a gradually dry finish.
Pretty light-bodied and nicely carbonated. Thin lingering strands of syrupy stickiness. Gently cleansing, gradually drying, surprisingly refreshing. Shockingly little alcohol presence for 10.1% ABV.
A seriously excellent beer, from a reasonably local brewery that has seriously earned their substantial reputation. Intense as hell and dazzlingly complex, balanced and superbly well-integrated. Terrifyingly drinkable, with a substantial booze payload that is ... invisible—that's the art, I guess.
