This afternoon's beer:
Opens with a dense and intense weave of chocolate and strong dark coffee, threads of woody spice and vanilla woven in. Structure is toasty and caramelly on top of thick bread. Earthy-grassy-peaty bitterness around the edges, a bit more assertive by the finish as the beer struggles toward dry.
Just a little bit thicker than medium-bodied, very well-carbonated. Some thin lingering stickiness in the wake of bready chewiness. Wraps up gently drying. No hint of the 10% ABV, anywhere.
A nifty Imperial Porter, laden with flavor—not a shock, with coffee and vanilla and cardamom and chocolate brewed in. Intense as heck and bogglingly complex; nicely integrated, something like balanced, drinkable as hell. Graceful and supple and subtle. Another winner of a beer from Sixpoint.
