Tröegs Mad Elf

Tonight's beer:

Tröegs Mad Elf

Sweet-tart cherries, dark and rich, backed by honey and bread and a touch of caramel. A sprinkling of bright-woody spice (mace? cloves?). Rum and brandy around the edges, hints of grapes and plums. Vague possibilities of earthy bitterness at the finish, as the beer ambles toward dry.

Pretty light-bodied with a decent amount of carbonation. Some thin stickiness, then quickly clean and refreshing and gently drying. Basically no trace of the 11% ABV.

Yum! Basically a cherry-bomb, possibly a bit drier for all the honey in the brew. Not even in the same galaxy as balanced, but nicely integrated.  Complex and intense as hell, poised and graceful. Stupidly drinkable. A little out of season, but always delicious.
