Heavy Seas (Uncharted Waters) Siren Noire (2015)

Tonight's beer:

Heavy Seas (Uncharted Waters) Siren Noire (2015)

Opens with a steep crescendo of chocolate, laced with coffee and caramel and vanilla. Earthy-peaty bitterness lurks around the edges, with hints of dark bread and burnt fruit. Shifts slightly dryward through the finish.

Thick, dense, slick but syrupy. Some dense and fine carbonation. Round and softly chewy, some lingering stickiness. Inclines slightly toward a little drying beyond the finish.

A delicious (and more than a little dangerous) Big American Stout from a local-to-me brewery I like a lot, laden with chocolate flavor and edged with bourbon-barrel character. Intense as hell, bogglingly complex, smooth and slick and marvelously well-integrated; "balanced" is probably not relevant, here. Scarily drinkable, with the 9.5% ABV practically undetectable. The extra time in the bottle (somewhere around a year,  think) definitely helped an already excellent beer improve.
