Tonight's beer:
Opens caramel-bready-toasty sweet, with hints of molasses and figs and dates. Earthy-peaty bitterness around the edges; a flicker of smoke off in the distance. Slides gradually to softly dry.
Medium-bodied or maybe a little thicker, with a good amount of scrubbing-drying carbonation. Some strands of stickiness after a bit of bready chewiness, then the beer wraps up easily dry and clean and surprisingly refreshing.
A quite nice lighter (or at least lower-alcohol) Scottish Ale, less of a crazy malt-bomb than the typical Wee Heavy. Nicely intense and complex, given the 5% ABV, a bit on the straightforward side. Pretty well-balanced and immensely drinkable. It's been a while since I've ha anything from Port City, but I've always liked what I've tried from them.
