Tonight's beer:
A little bready sweetness, a touch of caramel. Soft baking spices—nutmeg and cardamom and ginger—backed by pepper. Dim hints of earthy-grassy bitterness. Remains bitter and gently dry through the finish.
Pretty light-bodied, really, and feels more highly-carbonated than it looks to be. A little wispy stickiness, then mostly clean, drying and refreshing.
A pretty interesting take on a historic beer style (brewed for a living history attraction near the brewery) that makes one appreciate hops. This might be a little on the old side (oops) but it comes across as a mild-tasting Xmas beer, which seems unlikely to be the intent, here. Subtle and subdued, pretty nicely put together, reasonably drinkable. I should try to find some fresh, sometime.
