Tonight's beer: Firestone Walker Parabola (2012)

Firestone Walker Parabola (2012)

Vanilla, caramel, dark bread on top. Coffee and chocolate emerging, sort of, in the middle, at least briefly. Butter, grass, ash, smoke, peat, earth, and burnt fruits blending into the background. Impressions of whiskey rise into and through the finish.

Surprisingly light-bodied for a big American stout, especially a barrel-aged one. In spite of the whiskey in the taste, there's startlingly little boozy heat. Long and sticky finish, not particularly drying but somehow bordering on refreshing.

A scarily drinkable big barrel-aged American stout. Tons of intense and complex flavors ere; tends toward the malt-bomb side of that, inspite of the very light body and the 82 IBUs, but superbly well-integrated. Not a ton of warning of the 12.5% ABV. A big-time winner from Firestone Walker; It pretty much lives up to its reputation. Thanks to +Andrew Nixon for assistance in the acquisition of this.
